You may ask what a government shutdown is and how it will affect me. Well, a government shutdown occurs when the U.S. Congress fails to pass the necessary appropriations bills or a temporary funding measure to fund federal agencies and operations. When this happens, federal agencies without approved funding must cease all non-essential functions.
On October 1st, 2025,the federal government shut down after lawmakers left the Capitol without passing a funding bill. During the shutdown, many federal workers will not be paid, many essential employees will be forced to report to work;, however, President Donald Trump and members of Congress will continue to receive paychecks during the shutdown. The majority of veteran benefits will continue to be funded regardless of the shutdown. Pay for military and civilian workers will be delayed until a funding deal is reached, continuing their duties without compensation. The Social Security Administration could face a furloughed workforce. Fewer workers could mean that processing new Social Security applications could be delayed. More than 32,000 of its nearly 80,000 workers in the Department of Health and Human Services will be turned away during the shutdown. The FDA has warned that because of the government shutdown, it will end its ability to monitor the use of new ingredients in animal food, and thus will not be able to ensure that the meat, milk, and eggs of livestock are safe for human consumption. In conclusion, due to the factual evidence I just stated, we can say that the government will affect the economy and people’s daily lives.
