Janelise is an independent and determined individual who has made her mark at Speer both athletically and academically. Throughout her four years, she has been a part of the Track team and the girls’ Softball team. Softball has a special place in her heart, as she was introduced to it by her uncle and stuck with it ever since. Although she is often seen focused on her work, people may not know she has a hidden talent: she can clap with one hand.

When asked about how she hopes to be remembered, Janelise shared she would love to be remembered by her “athleticism and academic achievements” such as, “Playing two sports in one season and being selected as STEAM Student of the Month.” So far, she is enjoying her senior year, and says the best way to describe it is by the song “NUEVAYoL” by BadBunny
Janelise’s academic growth was mainly influenced by her track coach, Mr. Newsome. whose coaching has impacted who she is today. “He has inspired me. He’s always pushing me past my limits because he knows my true capabilities. My sophomore year, I was going through a rut, and he helped me get out of it through track. He’s brought my athletic performance confidence up tremendously, and I’m grateful for him.”
Looking back, Janelise would tell her freshman self, “Be careful who you consider your friends. Don’t lose yourself, stay focused, and stay consistent.” Like most seniors, she feels her four years at Speer have flown by. It feels just like yesterday we walked through those doors.
In the near future, Janelise plans to attend college to study nursing. Her goal is to begin her career in a hospital and eventually go back to school and get her CRNA certification.
Lastly, Janelise had some advice for the underclassmen, “DON’T RELY ON AI. stay focused and lock in on your academics, as well as credits; colleges pay attention to your first three years. Also, if you’re interested in sports or clubs, try it out. You’ll regret it when you see others having fun.”
