Picture this: your favorite artist drops tour dates and your city is one of them. You text your friend out of excitement about the possibility of seeing them live. Then you check your calendar and see you don’t have anything going on that day. You start looking for an outfit that matches yours and the concert vibe. Then the tickets come out and you see the prices and instantly get that weird stomach feeling that all of the anticipation you built isn’t happening anymore. Concert tickets should be more affordable and not include a bunch of extra fees[a] because everyone should be able to see their favorite artist perform their favorite songs also so their accessible to everyone no matter their income.
Ticket prices being overpriced make them less accessible to those with low income, which shouldn’t be the case.[b] Concerts are supposed to be enjoyable and such a great experience that you can look back on. Oftentimes, prices are misleading; the price you see that makes you think “oh yeah, this is within my budget” is most likely too good to be true. When it comes to checking out with the ticket, you see all these added fees on, which are up to half the ticket price. This then causes you to not be able to get the ticket anymore because it’s too expensive. For example, I plan on going to NBA Youngboy’s concert in Chicago, IL, on September 24th. When he first dropped the tickets in the summertime time they were affordable. The ticket prices varied from less than $100 to $400. Now, with his concert a week away, the minimum is about $400, which used to be the max you were paying.[c] I waited until the last minute, and it caught up to me; I did pay almost $400 on my ticket. But if I didn’t have the money to pay for it, I would be out of luck. This can be the case for some people, resulting in them no longer being able to go to the concert. Ultimately, the prices of tickets now can take the true meaning behind going to concerts because it’s about the experience you get seeing your favorite artist sing your favorite songs live. The feeling is indescribable, and I feel like everyone should be able to experience that feeling without having any financial worries
.On the other hand, people might argue that there are legitimate reasons behind the ticket prices being the price they are.[d] For example, artists often spend a big amount of their own money to go on tour and they need big venues, meaning more money so essentially they also have to make profit. Which is understandable because I’m sure you would also want to make some of your own money back after spending a lot of it. Another reason would be timing, if you wait too late to buy the tickets, resellers are doubling the price because in their mind it’s like “oh they’ll pay double the price if they really want to go.” Which oftentimes is also true and that’s another way you get stuck paying more than you should have to.
In conclusion, ticket prices being so expensive is making an unforgettable experience less accessible. Majority of the time ticket prices are deceiving due to the fact that they advertise one price but don’t include all the extra fees that are added on when it’s time to checkout. This leaves people in a bad predicament whether it be financially or having to miss out on an exciting moment. Ultimately, I believe ticket prices should be more affordable for everyone to be able to see their favorite artists perform live because it really is a good and healing feeling.
